Children’s Dentistry
At Dental on Beams, one of our great passions is helping children establish a positive relationship with their teeth. Many dental issues that occur later in life, such as gum disease and tooth decay, can easily be avoided if good habits are established early on. That’s why it’s so important that your child is introduced to our friendly dentists from a young age.

Creating a positive experience for your child at the dentist
A lot of us feel nervous or anxious before going to the dentist, and we put off appointments for as long as we can, often to the detriment of our dental health. This is why we strive to make your child’s first trips to the dentist fun and positive, so they don’t grow up fearing the dental chair.
One of the best ways to achieve this is to bring your child along early in their development, before any issues with their teeth or gums have arisen. The Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommends your child begins seeing a dentist when their first baby tooth becomes visible, or when they reach the age of one – whichever comes first.
A routine dental check-up is a great way for a child to be introduced to their dentist, and it allows us to deal with the simple things on their first visit. We spend these initial appointments building a relationship with the child and familiarising them with dentistry in a fun and playful manner.
They even get to use the controls and go for a ride in the chair! We also have a special treasure chest for children to pick a present from at the end of their appointment. Our goal is to help them feel comfortable and relaxed in the chair and to build a friendly relationship with their dentist and dental assistant.
Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme
Under the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme, certain children between the ages of two and 17 are entitled to $1000 in free dental benefits over two calendar years. At Dental on Beams, we choose to bulk bill those who are eligible under the scheme so there’s no out-of-pocket expense up to the $1000 limit.

Children’s Dental Emergencies
Kids will be kids. Sometimes accidents happen and a tooth can get chipped or even knocked. Fortunately, there’s no reason to panic. We have a step-by-step guide on what to do if a tooth is knocked out, and we also offer emergency dental treatment both on weekdays and weekends. We are always on hand to take care of any dental emergencies you child may have.
